The Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum has announced the following for Ukraine citizens affected from the war:

Ukrainian citizens holding a valid passport

-Holders of a Ukrainian biometric passport may enter through all entry points (land and air) with a maximum stay of 90 days. 

-Holders of a Ukrainian non biometric passport (old type) may enter from all entry points; a transit visa is required with a maximum stay of 90 days. 

For both cases mentioned above, Police will stamp their passport with the date of entry at the Greek boarders.

Ukrainian citizens with no valid identification documents

Ukrainian citizens who do not have travel documents may enter only from the Passport Control in Promahonas, where they will be issued a document by the responsible civil servants of the Ukrainian Embassy in Greece. This procedure allows them to stay for a maximum of 90 days in country. In case where the children, do not have travel documents, Police officers will note under the entry stamp on parent’s passport the number of minor children they are accompanying (a marriage or birth certificate will be required. If there is no such document, parents must submit a declaration stating the number of children, their first name, surname, gender and date of birth)

Provision of temporary protection

Within the 90-days period, Ukrainian citizens will be granted a one year temporary protection by the Asylum Service of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum; this gives them the right of access to the labour market and to health care system, according to the Directive 2001/55 of the Council of the European Union.

Αccommodation

There is option of short-term accommodation until the process of issuing travel documents, where required, is completed. The Ministry of Migration and Asylum will provide accommodation structures already available. 

Unaccompanied children

In the case of unaccompanied children, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum is in position for the transfer of the children to special emergency accommodation facilities; thereafter, the relevant identification (if necessary) and guardianship procedure is followed.
