Greece- Lent Monday celebration
As Greece waves goodbye to carnival season, we welcome Clean Monday (Καθαρά Δευτέρα)—a day that’s anything but ordinary!
Marking the start of Lent, this beloved tradition is all about fresh beginnings, delicious food, and, of course, flying kites! Families and friends head to the countryside, parks, or the beach to enjoy a picnic filled with lagana bread, olives, taramasalata, seafood, and halva, embracing the spirit of cleansing both body and soul.
But Clean Monday isn’t just about fasting—it’s about fun! The sky fills with colorful kites as a symbol of leaving behind the past and looking forward to the future.
Clean Monday is a celebration of lightheartedness, tradition, and togetherness. Do you have anything similar or have heard of Lent Monday before? Let us know!
