The relocation industry has seen numerous developments since the beginning of the pandemic. One of the most significant changes relates to the introduction of new visa types and procedures, which reflect to special demands of these times and which are likely to be maintained in the post-pandemic era.

The Greek government targeting employees of companies with a registered seat abroad, seeks to offer a special immigration type, allowing people to live in Greece while working remotely for a foreign company. A proposed legislation for “Digital Nomads” provides a right for employees who can work remotely for a company abroad to apply for a special one-year residence permit (the “digital visa”), with an option to renew for two years. The same right would apply to their families as well. Greece aims to mainly attract people currently employed by companies in the UK and the USA.

Greece is only one of the countries competing to attract digital nomads. The good weather and beautiful landscapes are Greece’s main assets in this quest. Other parameters taken into account by digital nomads when choosing a country to relocate include the quality of life (health system, traffic, entertainment, internet connection, accessibility), the cost of living, even the presence of other digital nomads in the country.
